A unique home decor should be implemented in all decor. It’s a way of making your house a home. Making your house feel comfortable to you. Make it your own. This is a rule that I stick to every time I go shopping for decor pieces.
“This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase using this link. Please see my disclosure for more details.”
Shopping at Target or Hobby Lobby you know that almost everyone has access to each piece in that store. It has been bought over and over. Your neighbor might even have it on display in their home.
I’m not saying don’t go shopping at Target. I do love Target. Just try and buy a minimal amount of your decor from one place. If you absolutely love that wall hanging that was in the ad buy it. Unique doesn’t have to be every item in your home. Just some pieces that make your house your home. Try to expand out a bit more for some of your other decors.

Online stores are a great place to find unique home decor. There are so many different shops out there on the internet. It’s amazing what you can find. I use to get frustrated with ad popups. I saw one that looked like something I liked so I clicked on it. It ended up being an item on Overstock. I found what I feel like is a treasure trove of great items. I think they are such a great place to find wonderful home decor I became an affiliate marketer for them. (At no cost to you) Overstock is my go-to for home decor and many other items. So before you pass up those pop-up ads, especially if they have to do with decor, you might just want to give them a look.
Check out the items below that I found. The vases resemble milk cans but are much slimmer. They are a great way to add a formal farmhouse touch. Windmills are a great piece to add to the decor. These tabletop windmills add that unique way to add some familiar decor. Clocks I can’t say enough about clocks. they are one of my favorite decor pieces. Having a wall full of clocks is a great conversation decor piece. Plus they look great. The one I have pictured comes with 2 clocks with different pictures on them.
Thrift Stores are Great for Unique Home decor
In thrift stores you know when you walk in there will be very unique pieces. They can date back years. Go down each aisle and really look to see what they have. I have found some of my favorite decor pieces at these stores. Look past the dirty or used-looking items and you will be surprised at what you can find at great prices. Put on your artistic hat and think outside of the box. If an item isn’t the color you want how about painting it.

Look through the curtains and sheet section. See if you see any pattern of fabric you like and make some throw pillows. The furniture area is a great area to find some furniture that you can repaint or reupholster. There is a chair that I recently reupholstered that I found at a thrift store. It is a great addition to my decor. If you are not able to paint or reupholster, slipcovers work wonders. Slipcovers and furniture from a thrift store are a great way to furnish your home on a low budget. I have done this many times.
A lot of the furniture’s bones and cushions still are in great shape. The fabric usually is worn. That’s where the slipcovers come in handy. The duck cloth slipcover below is my go-to. I have used a couple of these on two of my loveseats. Wingback chairs are a piece that is pretty easy to find in thrift stores. Add the slipcover below and you have a new chair.
If you want to add some color to your decor how about a colorful slipcover. Get two and change your lookup whenever you want to.
Yard Sale
Have you ever driven by a yard sale and seen a great piece of furniture but you don’t stop?
You probably missed out on a great price piece of furniture. A lot of times at yard sales you can find furniture and home decor that are unique and in great shape. They just might need a bit of cleaning. I use an upholstery cleaner machine. It works great.
Spend a day yard sale hopping. Make sure it’s nice weather out and enjoy shopping in the great outdoors. You will be surprised at what you can find for great prices. Individuals usually price things cheaper than thrift stores do. If you don’t want to pay what it is priced for asking them if they will accept a lower offer. If they won’t give them your number ask them to call you if they don’t sell it. They might just give you a call and accept your lower offer by afternoon.
Most people that have yard sales just want to get rid of their stuff so they won’t have to hall it away themselves.
