Ikea Hacks For Every Room

There are so many Ikea hacks out there I decided to compile a few of them. Many of them could be used in different rooms, not just the ones I suggest. While I was going through different Ikea hacks I realized I had similar furniture that wasn’t Ikea that would work just as well. So, I have given ideas on how to substitute other items that aren’t Ikea items to get the same results. With this list, you should be able to find something in your house to DIY an Ikea Hack yourself. .

Dining Room

Petal + Ply

What started out as 4 sets of 6 Kalaxcubbies with open backs turned into display storage for your good dishes. Don’t you love the metal label holders? They add that old grocery store vibe. I found this Ikea Hack on Petal &Ply website. They explain how they created this beautiful piece with plywood and other wood and they were lucky enough to be given the four cubbies that they used for one of their Ikea hacks.

If you already have some of these cubbies and are getting tired of the same look this is a way to update without a lot of cost. I have cubbies that are very similar to the Ikea ones that would work just the same. I was thinking that I could also use cardboard for the backing instead of plywood to cut down on the cost too. Paint the cardboard and add some wallpaper, gift wrapping paper, or whatever you have.

If you do decide to use cardboard instead of plywood make sure that the cubbies are secured together with strips of wood. You don’t want them toppling down on anyone. Also if you don’t have four sets this look can still be done on a smaller version.

Nursery or Children’s Bedroom Ikea Hack

Maria Soxbo

This hack using the Ikea Regolit rice lamp, Ljusnan basket set, and Osternas leather handles is one that I love. Hot air balloons are one of my favorite children’s decor pieces. I wish I had a room that I could put this in. It is so cute.

Maria Soxbo gives detailed steps on how she created this beautiful piece. If you don’t have the exact lamp, basket or handles look around for items you could substitute. Any round paper lamp would work. Check out a thrift store for a small basket and make the leather handle out of felt or an old purse strap. Then follow along with her directions.

The Billy Bookcase is a popular Ikea item that gets hacked. It can be dressed up in many ways. I have actually done an Ikea Billy Bookcase hack and written an article about it.

My living room looked so bland until my daughter and I installed the bookshelves and made them look like built-ins. It is now my favorite room in the house.

Search for the Ikea Billy bookcase hack and see how many ways you can make your bookcase unique. Click on the picture above to see what we did. Remember as with all of the other items listed any bookcase can be used not just the Ikea brand.

Laundry Room Ikea Hack

Yahoo Lifestyle

This is a genius idea. It’s a type of laundry sorter. It is using an Ikea cupboard with each door labeled with family member names. Just fold it and put it in the cupboard for that family member to grab and put away. No more stacking it on the dryer or making trips to each bedroom.

Bedroom

Megan Bell

There are a lot of dressers at Ikea that you can change the look up on. This hack uses the Tarva. It goes from plain to beautiful. Megan Bell took her inspiration from an Urban Outfitters dresser. She has an article on her post or a youtube video that you can check out her hack.

Any dresser can be dressed up in the same way. If you have addressed that needs a face lift this may be an idea for you.

There are so many Ikea hacks out there. Some are truly hacks and others are just ways to use the item. Check out the ones above and see what you can do.
